sport > carney's community
when south london youth worker, george turner, met england boxing coach, mick carney mbe, back in 2004, the pair quickly realised the potential for using boxing to help keep disadvantaged young people away from a life of crime. sadly mick passed away in 2011, but his legacy lives on through carney's community, a centre set up by george and one of mick's head boxing coaches, mark reigate. the pair, along with criminology graduate, arthur clarke, now run regular training sessions out of their boxing gym near battersea park. george wanted me to come down to meet the family and get some portraiture photographs to line the walls of their new space.
